Mercy For Animals Featured
Our Vision - MFA works to create a society where all animals are treated with the compassion and respect they so rightfully deserve. We serve as a voice for animals through proactive consumer education initiatives, cruelty investigations, corporate outreach, and legal advocacy. The Plight of Farmed Animals Over 95% of the cruelty to animals in the United States occurs at the hands of the meat, dairy, and egg industries which confine, mutilate, and slaughter over 8 billion land animals each year. Despite the fact that these are the most abused animals in the United States, they actually have the fewest number of advocates. That is why it is so important that we stand up and become a voice for the most defenseless. Awards and Recognition Mercy For Animals was named "Nonprofit of the Year" by VegNews magazine in both 2011 and 2006, making MFA the first organization ever to receive the award twice. According to VegNews, MFA was chosen for "fast-tracking the vision of animal protection's promising future to the present." In 2011, MFA was named one of the "15 Top High-Impact Nonprofits" in the category of "animal welfare, rights, and protection" by Philanthropedia, a division of Guidestar. The Independent Charities Seal of Excellence is awarded to the members of Independent Charities of America and Local Independent Charities of America that have, upon rigorous independent review, been able to certify, document, and demonstrate on an annual basis that they meet the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectiveness. These standards include those required by the US Government for inclusion in the Combined Federal Campaign, probably the most exclusive fund drive in the world. Of the 1,000,000 charities operating in the United States today, it is estimated that fewer than 50,000, or 5 percent, meet or exceed these standards, and, of those, fewer than 2,000 have been awarded this Seal.
